Hibernating Rhythm - Bear Drum
Anan wildlife viewing area is not
far from Wrangell, Alaska. Brown and black bears are observed in
their natural state from a viewing platform. I presented a
program about bears to third graders a few years ago. The
information about hibernation is fascinating to me. This bear is
all curled up for a nice nap. An eagle design element is located
in the bear’s rear haunch. |

Evening Star - Otter
Otter’s always bring out joy and magical wonderment in me. This
otter rests in the waves. A curling wave reveals the “Evening
Star”- the wishing star that young and young at heart wish upon.
Once I wished upon the star because I wanted to go back home to
live in Alaska. Here I am! The evening star could be the star or
maybe it is the otter! |

Lovebirds
The raven and eagle are often paired in designs. I am from the
Raven clan. When I was very
young my grandmother told me that I should marry someone from
the opposite kinship clan- the
eagle. The lovebird design shows the traditional pairing for
marriage. |

Salmon
Run
When my father retired from fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska, I
made this design for him. I have varied this design from time to
time. In the T – shirt design there is a male and female salmon.
Sometimes I make the salmon in opposite formline (skeleton
outline) colors to indicate spawning and prime of life cycles.
The salmon cycle is the life cycle. |

Killerwhale This
design commemorates my grandfather’s life. He was a Tsimpshian
from the Killerwhale clan. The design is one of youth and vigor
as depicted by the movement and curvilinear form line. Sometimes
I change the design and add a wave border |
